Jujitsu

Jujitsu is the oldest of the Japanese martial arts, with it’s roots stretching back over one thousand years.  It evolved on the battlefield, coming into play when samurai dropped their swords.

The Welcome Mat’s founder, Brett Wood-Taylor, held the rank of sixth degree black belt in jujitsu.  He had been exposed to several of the different styles that exist today.

As it is taught at the Welcome Mat, the primary purpose of jujitsu is no nonsense self defence.  An emphasis is placed on resolving conflicts in a manner that is appropriate for each situation.

Students will learn a variety of strikes, pressure points, throws, strangles, and joint locks.  Advanced students will learn to use baton-like weapons and staffs, and to defend themselves against knives and guns.
